Every year I like to visit my local shrine, which just happens to be a World Heritage site. Shimogamo Jinja in the north of Kyoto is surrounded by an ancient grove known as Tadasu no mori, and during the more than twenty years that I’ve been attending Hatsumode I’ve seen changes in the way the shrine markets itself. This year, as previously, I noticed small additions and alterations designed to make the shrine more appealing. Here’s my photo report of this year’s visit…

Next year I may go to the hatsumode at the hon micci Los Angeles shuthosho. This question may be unrelated, but does anyone know what hon micci is? It sounds like a Shinto sect. People say the building is a Shinto shrine, but the building does not have shrine architecture, and I can not find any info on it other than that it has a phone number.
Thank you, Eli, I see the location is at 4431 Wilshire Blvd: https://www.yelp.com/biz/hon-michi-los-angeles-shutchosho-los-angeles. Reviews suggest it is indeed a sect of some kind, and in decline as regards membership, though the images of the modern and sleek building are very impressive and, in line with Japan’s new sects, indicate a lot of donations from wealthy backers …
